Do you really understand Floating Ball Valve? | NORTECH

What is floating type ball valve?

A floating type ball valve is a type of valve that uses a ball with a hole through the center as the main component. The ball is suspended inside the valve body by a stem, which is connected to a handle or lever that is used to open and close the valve. The ball is free to move or "float" within the valve body, and it is sealed in place by a pair of seats or seals when the valve is closed. When the valve is open, the ball is lifted off of the seats, allowing fluid to flow through the valve. Floating type ball valves are often used in high-pressure and high-temperature applications because they are able to withstand a wide range of conditions and are relatively easy to maintain.

What is the difference between trunnion and floating ball valves?

Trunnion ball valves and floating ball valves are both types of ball valves that are used to control the flow of fluids through a pipeline. The main difference between the two is the way in which the ball is supported within the valve body.

In a trunnion ball valve, the ball is supported by two trunnions, which are small cylindrical projections that extend from the top and bottom of the ball. The trunnions are located in bearings in the valve body, which allow the ball to rotate smoothly when the valve is opened or closed.

In a floating ball valve, the ball is not supported by trunnions. Instead, it is allowed to "float" within the valve body, guided by a sealing ring. When the valve is opened or closed, the ball moves up or down within the valve body, guided by the sealing ring.

Both trunnion ball valves and floating ball valves have their own advantages and disadvantages. Trunnion ball valves are generally more robust and can handle higher pressure and temperature, but they are also more expensive to manufacture. Floating ball valves are more economical and are easier to install, but they are not suitable for high pressure or temperature applications.

What are the different types of float valves?

There are several types of float valves, including:

1.Plunger-type float valve: This type of float valve uses a plunger that is attached to a float. When the liquid level rises, the float rises with it, causing the plunger to push against a valve seat, closing the valve. When the liquid level falls, the float falls with it, allowing the valve to open.

2.Ballcock valve: This type of float valve is commonly used in toilets to regulate the flow of water into the tank. It consists of a float that is attached to a valve stem, which controls the flow of water.

3.Diaphragm-type float valve: This type of float valve uses a flexible diaphragm that is attached to a float. When the liquid level rises, the float rises with it, causing the diaphragm to press against a valve seat, closing the valve.

4.Paddle-type float valve: This type of float valve uses a paddle that is attached to a float. When the liquid level rises, the float rises with it, causing the paddle to push against a valve seat, closing the valve.

5.Electromagnetic float valve: This type of float valve uses an electromagnet to control the flow of liquid. When the liquid level rises, the float activates the electromagnet, which in turn activates a valve to close the flow of liquid.

What is the purpose of float valve?

The main purpose of a float valve is to automatically regulate the flow of liquid into or out of a container or tank. Float valves are commonly used in a variety of applications, including:

1.Toilet tanks: Ballcock valves are used to control the flow of water into the tank.

2.Water tanks: Float valves are used to maintain a constant water level in tanks, by allowing water to flow in when the level is low and shutting off the flow when the level is high.

3.Irrigation systems: Float valves are used to control the flow of water to fields or gardens.

4.Chemical storage tanks: Float valves are used to maintain a specific liquid level in chemical storage tanks, to ensure that the chemicals are not over- or under-diluted.

5.Cooling towers: Float valves are used to control the flow of water in cooling towers, to maintain a constant water level.

Overall, float valves are used to automatically control the flow of liquids in a variety of applications where a constant liquid level needs to be maintained.
